ERG professor Dan Kammen was recently featured in a CNN interview discussing the effects of COVID-19 on pollution levels around the world.

ERG students Jenny Rempel and Kelsey Alford-Jones have recently been named NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program award winners for 2020. NSF awards and recognizes “outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines” who are “pursuing research-based Master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions”.

ERG Professor Dan Kammen was recently featured on Global Minima, a podcast by Sustainabilist, in an episode titled “Dan Kammen on Energy, Data, and Canned Air (GM101)”.

Anushah Hossain, a Ph.D. student in the Energy & Resource Group, has recently been awarded two different fellowships. Hossain was awarded the Peter Lyman Graduate Fellowship for “her dissertation on a multi-lingual internet”, as well as the Subir Chowdhury Fellowship on Quality of Life in Bangladesh to “support her research on open access software communities in South Asia”.

ERG PhD student Will Gorman recently published an article titled “Hybrid Power Plants Are Growing Rapidly, But Are They a Good Idea?” on Green Tech Media. He discusses how though hybrid power plants can have several benefits, there are many limitations and drawbacks to using such technology.

ERG Professor John Harte recently published an article on Environmental Health News giving a roadmap on we can use the same interconnectedness that is spurring catastrophe to instead promote health and sustainability.

On Tuesday, March 31, 4:30 – 6:00 pm, Fossile Free California will be hosting a community forum on COVID-19 and the climate crisis. This live webinar features ERG Professor Dan Kammen, who will be presenting his views on how the current global pandemic intersects with the climate crisis.

In an article titled “Hand-washing is critical in the fight against coronavirus, but what if you don’t have safe water?” published by The Hill, authors ERG Alumni Peter Gleick and Heather Cooley highlight the critical need to increase clean water access in America in order to protect families from the Coronavirus and lack of drinkable water.

ERG professor Dan Kammen has recently joined a group of progressive policymakers to create green policy proposals that includes an economic stimulus package. The bill aims to help the nation recover from the coronavirus pandemic while simultaneously combating climate change.

ERG alumnus Christopher Jones was recently cited in both Scientific American and Global News articles.  In both articles, he discusses how Coronavirus is effecting global carbon emissions and the general environment.
