ERG’s Lara Kueppers was among 3 Rausser College faculty elected Fellow of the California Academy of Sciences by a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees. Academy Fellows are nominated by their peers and recognized for their exceptional contributions to the world of science.
Meg Mills-Novoa has joined the Energy and Resources Group as part of a group of new faculty members recruited through Rausser College’s Climate Equity and Environmental Justice cluster initiative to further climate justice research.
UC Berkeley scientist Patrick Gonzalez has been appointed by the White House as an assistant director for climate and biodiversity. Gonzalez will work to help execute the climate plans declared by President Biden, like the “30 by 30” conservation goal and net zero emissions by 2050.

ERG PhD student Gauthami Penakalapati was spotlighted by the Facebook Fellowship program for her research, which draws upon gender and feminist theory with the goal of empowering women and young girls in rural India. Her work reveals how colonialism has historically shaped public health data, in turn contributing to a lack of gender equity.

ERG assistant professor David Anthoff and alumnus Frank Errickson recently published a report on Nature finding that “by accounting for economic inequalities between countries and regions, the social cost of methane drops by almost a factor of 10 in sub-Saharan Africa and jumps by almost a factor of 10 for industrialized countries, such as the United States.”
