Annika is an MS student in the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on sustainable systems, environmental justice, industrial pollution, and political ecology. She is particularly interested in sustainable systems in the textile and apparel industry, including production, manufacture, use, waste disposal, and the energy required for these processes. Her research adopts a historical and political ecology approach to investigating environmental and labor inequality in major garment manufacturing centers in Southeast Asia and large textile landfills in Chile and Uganda.
Prior to joining ERG, Annika developed sustainable design methods as a fashion designer, creating garments and products entirely from waste. She holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design and a minor in Environmental Studies from The New School.
