Clayton’s research focuses on design evaluations and performance assessments of carbon offsets, carbon prices, and clean electricity standards with a geographic emphasis on the United States and China. He founded a consulting firm that provides advisory services on climate policy and politics, acts as Strategic Advisor to the International Emissions Trading Association, and works as a Researcher for Kepos Capital. He serves on the board of Earthshot Now, a non-profit creating video games about climate change. Before joining ERG, Clayton served as an Economist in the Executive Office of the California Air Resources Board and spent five years as a Senior Research Associate at Resources for the Future.
