Cello Lockwood

Cello focuses on the environmental impacts and social implications of the proposed Circular Economy with specific attention to application in the textile industry. Her current research seeks to measure and understand the underlying mechanisms of the “displacement rate” (i.e. if recycled products are purchased instead of brand new items). This is an inherently interdisciplinary endeavor incorporating life-cycle assessments, market analyses, and cognitive science insights. She is driven by the belief that fashion, and broader commodity systems, will only be sustainable, circular or net-zero if robust research and inclusive dialogues serve to ensure decarbonization innovations and dignified labor efforts are pursued simultaneously throughout supply chains.

As a GSR at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Cello works on advancing Actionable Science to co-produce more innovative, decision-relevant, and impactful knowledge that can accelerate environmental solutions with attention to justice equity.

Before coming to ERG, Cello was a Watson Fellow, and Fulbright Open Research Scholar.

Cello is keen to find connections and engage in conversations with fellow ERGies re: anything sustainable fashion, circular economy, and actionable science. She is open to collaborations for PhD case studies / data collection, as well as internship opportunities.
