MJ Wong Engel

Broadly, MJ Wong Engel is interested in the intersecting challenges between climate change, migration, and governance. As an ERG MA/JD student, she aims to explore how international refugee law responds to climate-induced displacement—and the consequences when it falls short. Engel is excited to integrate the fields of legal geography, spatial analysis, and environmental science with her legal studies to advance more effective frameworks for advocacy and policy.

Engel hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2023 and was gifted the trail name “Snorlax.” She loves trail running, backcountry skiing, and attempting to write climate fiction.

Prior to joining ERG, Engel attended Columbia University. She works in climate power.
