SASHA HARRIS-LOVETT – Strategic Planning for Multi-Benefit Urban Water Infrastructure

December 5, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm PST

SPEAKER: Sasha Harris-Lovett Ph.D. Candidate, Energy and Resources Group UC Berkeley DATE: Wednesday, December 5, 2018 TIME: 4:00-5:30pm PLACE: 126 Barrows TITLE: Strategic Planning for Multi-Benefit Urban Water Infrastructure DESCRIPTION: Much of the water infrastructure in the United States is nearing the end of its design life, and it faces new challenges from climate change. The next generation of urban water infrastructure can provide additional benefits like resource recovery, wildlife habitat and energy generation. Yet there is little guidance for how these broader societal goals for multi-benefit infrastructure can be integrated into what have historically been singular fields of engineered water supply and wastewater treatment. This talk presents a method for supporting decision-makers in implementing more equitable, holistic, and environmentally-sound urban water infrastructure. BIO: Sasha Harris-Lovett earned a MS from the Energy and Resources Group in 2013 and recently submitted her PhD dissertation. Her graduate research focused on urban water and wastewater management, decision analysis for socio-environmental problems, and collaborative environmental planning.
