Course: ER 172 Techno-optimism, Ecomodernism, and Narratives of Growth and Progress
Dave is a former technology and NGO executive and is in his 16th year as a continuing professional faculty member at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, where he also serves as Executive Director of the Innovation, Creativity, and Design Practice. He previously served as Faculty Director of UC Berkeley’s Business Innovation for Positive Impact summer program in Geneva, Switzerland, and is currently affiliated faculty with UC Berkeley’s Rausser College of Natural Resources (both the Energy & Resources Group and the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program).
His teaching and applied work focus on sustainable and responsible business, innovation, foresight, and design thinking. In addition to his Berkeley roles, he works regularly with firms and NGOs such as Adobe, Genentech, Levi’s, and The Nature Conservancy on sustainability, innovation, and organizational strategy. Dave holds a BS from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Northwestern University. He is currently completing his PhD at Clemson University, where his research examines techno-optimism, ecomodernism, and narratives of growth and progress—and their impacts on both people and planet.
