“The focus of my work is carbon and nutrient cycling in terrestrial ecosystems and trace-gas flux between soil and atmosphere. I conduct research on soil carbon, global change, and the impacts of human activities on ecosystem processes,” says Torn. Lead of the AmeriFlux Management Project as well as the Belowground Biogeochemistry Science Focus Area at Berkeley Lab, Torn’s research contributes to the study of field sites representing major climate and ecological biomes, and the study of soil processes that affect plant growth, microbial dynamics, and hydrological and thermal dynamics.
