The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an organization that produces authoritative scientific assessments on climate change to enforce and create global policies, has selected ERG PhD and associate adjunct professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management Patrick Gonzalez as a lead author on its next global scientific assessment of climate change.
Serving as lead author on four previous IPCC reports, Gonzalez will be working as a part of IPCC Working Group II, where his team will be producing the North America chapter of the volume on climate change impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability. He has led climate research across Africa, Latin America, and the U.S., focusing on tree mortality, wildfires, and carbon solutions. His work—published in Science and other journals—has supported communities in 26 countries and hundreds of U.S. national parks. Formerly the National Park Service’s principal climate change scientist and a White House climate and biodiversity advisor, he’s also advanced public awareness of climate issues and championed scientific integrity.
“This work provides a strong foundation for innovative policies and meaningful efforts to halt climate change," says Gonzalez. " [I'm] grateful to ERG for providing me the foundation for this work."
