THE ENERGY AND RESOURCES GROUP FALL 2019 COLLOQUIUM SERIES PRESENTS: SPEAKER: FAN DAI DATE: Wednesday, January 22, 2020 TIME: 4:00-5:30pm PLACE: 126 Barrows TITLE: California-China Climate Institute DESCRIPTION: California and China have a long-standing history of climate and environment partnership through the dozen MOUs between the governments, as well as policy exchange and joint research initiatives, ranging from air-quality, carbon market, energy efficiency, renewable energy innovation to long-term climate goal setting. What motivates and what has worked in such bilateral collaboration? What can the two jurisdictions along with other subnational collaborate in the new context of the US-China relations and global climate governance? Dr. Dai will share her reflected thinking on this important partnership on its past, present and future. SPEAKER: Dr. Dai is the founding Director of the California-China Climate Institute (CCCI). She plays a critical role in California’s collaboration with China on climate, energy and environment. Previously, she was a key advisor to Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr on China and climate, severed several senior positions at the Governor’s Office, CalEPA and California GO-Biz. She organized Governor Brown’s meeting with President Xi Jinping in 2017 which led to the establishment of CCCI. Dr. Dai is a graduate of Berkeley Law, and Ph.D. from the State University of New York. Her research focuses on carbon pricing, energy efficiency and innovation.
