April 3, 2007 ERG played a role in the U.S. Supreme Court decision of April 2, which determined that the US Environmental Protection Agency had to treat carbon dioxide as a regulatable pollutant. Former ERG doctoral student Scott Saleska, Prof. John Harte, and 12 other scientists wrote an Amicus Brief that delineated the scientific inadequacy of the EPA's argument to an earlier U.S. Court of Appeals case that decided in favor of the EPA. Their brief was used as evidence in the Supreme Court case.
